INTRODUCTION

The Quantity Surveying Department was established in September, 1999 after resource accreditation by NBTE. The leadership has been through coordinator and substantives head of department, starting with  Bldr. Otunola A. T.  as coordinator and the subsequent order of succession up till today is as illustrated in the table below.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

ND ADMISSION

Candidates are required to register and sit for the current year UTME in any three of the following subjects:

English Language

Mathematics

Physics

Geography

Economics

Chemistry

Biology

 

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS FOR ND

Candidates are required to have five credits at not more than two sittings in 0/Level/WASC/SSCE/NECO/NABTEB with credits in English, Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects and two other subjects chosen from Chemistry; Biology/Agric. Science; Geography/Economics; Technical Drawings/Fine Arts.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR HND ADMISSION

The entry requirements for Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes for candidates are:

  • Possession of a National Diploma certificate in Quantity Surveying at a level not below LOWER CREDIT obtained from the Federal Polytechnic, Offa or similar approved institutions whose respective programme have been accredited by NBTE.
  • Evidence of a one year relevant post National Diploma industrial training experience.
  • Candidates with PASS grade classification at national Diploma level with two years post qualification industrial training experience MAY be considered on its own merit.
  • Relevant five (5) O’level credits including English Language; Mathematics, physics and other relevant subjects as enlisted under National Diploma requirement obtained at not more than two (2) sittings from such examinations as SSCE/GCE, November/December, WAEC/NECO/NABTEB May/June.

UNIQUE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT

 

The department is well blessed with competent and very resourceful academic staff and other supporting staff and this had led to a peaceful co-existence of staff in the department, no wonder the department had made remarkable achievements in the following areas:

  1. Turning out yearly students with remarkable academic performance.
  2. Movement of the department to a more befitted accommodation at the permanent site of the institution
  3. Access to good laboratory facilities like laptops, projector, generator, standard public address system etc.
  4. Procurement of standard executive table and chair for the Head of Department office.
  5. Facilitation of yearly students’ excursion to places of construction activities where students can improve their knowledge academically and socially.
  6. Providing a comfortable office for the department secretary
  7. Carrying out regular maintenance of the department’s facilities like laptops, photocopier machines, electrical fittings, plumbing works etc
  8. Organising the best ever project defence and workshops for our HND II and ND II students which was generally applauded and adjudged the best ever witnessed by both the External Assessors to the department and staff of Quality Assurance Department of Federal Polytechnic Offa.
  9. Ensuring that staff of the department are made comfortable by provision of flat screen televisions and fridges for each offices,
  10. The students of the department won some laurels (awards) as the second best student in a quiz competition organized by the University of Ilorin chapter of the National Association of Quantity Surveying Students for 2018/2019 academic session.
  11. Similarly, students of the department won the first position in a quiz competition organised by NAESS, Federal Polytechnic Offa Chapter for 2018/2019 academic session.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE IN THE DEPARTMENT

Facilities in the department include Projector, generators, and public address system, and laptops, Bookshelves, cabinets, Fans, Printers.
