Computer Science Department

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Computer Science Department was established in October 1992 with intake of 120 National Diploma (ND) students. The Higher National Diploma (HND) programme took off in 1995 with an intake of 60 students. The staff and student population has grown steadily ever since. The staff strength currently stands at36 comprising of 26 full time lecturers, 3 instructors, 4 technologist, 1 Senior Technician and 2 admin staff. Two of the staff are Ph.D. holders, 6 are currently on their Ph.D.programmes in universities in the country and abroad, while 9 are Master degree holders. Seventy-Five percent (75%) of the academic staff of the Department are full members of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN).

There are other lecturers servicing the department from the Department of Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Engineering, Humanities and General Studies. Both ND and HND programmes of the Department is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The Department is among the departments in the School of Applied Sciences and Technology selected to run B.Sc. degree programme in Computer Science as an affiliate of Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE IN THE DEPARTMENT

The department has 3 laboratories:

  1. LAB 1 for ND Students;
  2. Hardware Maintenance LAB;
  • LAB 3 for HND Students

The three (3) laboratories are equipped with current hardware and software for students’ practical classes. Efforts are being made by the management to purchase additional computer systems for the lab 1 and lab 2 to complement the existing ones
