The Department of Architectural Technology was established in 2001 with only three academic staffs during the 2001/2002 academic session and took off with ND programme which was given the initial accreditation in 2001 and full accreditation in 2003 by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Seventeen (17) students were admitted for National Diploma programme. As a result of expansion and the initial accreditation given to the department to run HND in 2004, the department started its HND programme in 2004/05 academic session with only six students. On the same programme, full accreditation was given to the department by NBTE in 2006. AIM AND OBJECTIVES Our aim is to produce highly skilled technicians for architectural profession that will be able to carry out the following as holders of National Diploma (ND) at the end of the course:- Read, interpret and trace drawing Letter and stencil drawing sheets Scale, dimension, blow up and reduce drawings Produce measured drawings Make good freehand sketches Produce basic presentation and perspective drawings Build simple models Print, fold and collate drawing for submission. And to train higher level technicians or assisting architects for the architectural profession or other sector of the building industry. The graduate of Higher National Diploma (HND) will be expected to perform the following:- Prepare space programmes and working drawing for architectural projects. Design and prepare design drawings. Develop and prepare design drawings. Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications and incorporate such details in the Architectural working drawing. Supervise construction works and make progress reports on simple structure. Make presentation drawings of architectural works and draw detailed perspective with necessary render. Make detailed architectural model. . ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS NATIONAL DIPLOMA English language, Mathematics and Physics are compulsory plus other two subjects from the following:- Chemistry, Geography, Building Construction, Biology, Fine Art, Technical Drawing, Metal Work, Wood Work. HGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA Minimum of lower credit in ND from any accredited polytechnic with a year Industrial Training and two years Industrial Training for Pass candidates. FACILITIES The department has four (4) Drawing Studios, a Data Room, a Modeling Workshop, a Dark room, a Photographic Studio and Departmental Library.
