THE DIRECTORATE

1.1     The Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol has been in existence but as a Unit, since the inception of the Polytechnic in 1992 until its upgrade to Directorate status on 10th September, 2019 as advised by NBTE. The Directorate, under the headship of the Polytechnic Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Iroye, has since its upgrade, expanded and improved on its service delivery and corporate image management.

1.2     Previous Heads since inception:

  1. Wole Olanegan (1992 – 1996)
  2. Adetunji Oni (1996 – 2000)
  3. Wole Alawode (Sept. 2000 – 2015)
  4. Ladi Badmus (Coordinator) (Dec. 2015 – Dec. 2016)
  5. Olayinka Iroye ( Jan. 2017 till date)

1.3     Structure

The Directorate now has three (3) Units sprung up for enhanced performance as well as to ensure professionalism and efficiency namely:

  1. Protocol and Linkages
  2. Information and Public Relations
  3. Media and ICT

2.0     FUNCTIONS

The following are the functions of the Directorate as contained in the letter of approval for upgrading to a Directorate:

  1. Carrying out general protocol and event management activities which includes planning, organizing and anchoring of Polytechnic events such as Matriculation, Convocation as well as any other event management and protocol duties that may be assigned from time to time.

 

  1. Dissemination of information to the Polytechnic community and general public through Mail, Facebook, Twitter, SMS, Instagram, Whatsapp platforms, and updating of the Polytechnic Website, responding to enquiries on social media platforms, making press release and advertising/publicising the Polytechnic programmes and activities.

 

  1. Publication and production of Polytechnic Bulletin, Compendium, Newsflash, Prospectus, Information Book, Reports and advertisement materials such as Flyers, Banners, Posters etc.

 

  1. Enhancing media relations by seeking publicity or responding to media enquiries, criticism and creating a niche for the Polytechnic.

 

  1. Providing advice to the Management concerning policies, relationships, communication, public relations affairs and assist Management to resolve issues and all manners of conflicts.

 

  1. Relating directly with other institutions in the education sectors, legislatures and regulatory agencies as well as other MDAs at all level of government on behalf of the Polytechnic so as to foster mutual understanding and cooperation.

 

  1. Creating and Maintenance of community relationship by planning activities and programme that will enhance the Town and Gown relationship as part of the Polytechnic’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

 

  1. Documentation of all Polytechnic activities and programmes.

 

  1. Other functions and duties as may be assigned by the management from-time-to-time.

  3. Production and Mounting of Banner for ‘Campaign against Examination. Malpractices’, at strategic places on the campuses.
  4. Adequate media coverage of all Polytechnic events.
  5. Rendition of the Polytechnic Anthem at the Polytechnic special occasions.
  6. Productive Community Social Responsibility (CSR).
  7. Effective internal-public relations.
  8. Effective town and gown relationship.

5.0     Colours of the Directorate

The Directorate is the face of the Polytechnic thus, the colours of the Polytechnic – Green and Orange are the Directorate colours.
