DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY
Computer Engineering Department was set up sequel to a critique workshop (to evolve Computer Engineering programme) organized by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) held at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa from September 22 to 26, 1997. This Polytechnic is the first and pioneer Computer Engineering in the entire Nigerian polytechnics. The programme operates under the directives of the NBTE with a specific goal and objective- to produce Computer Technicians to install, maintain and repair computer hardware and its peripherals.
A graduate of the programme should be able to:
- Carry out routine maintenance and repairs of computers
- Design and map out the layout for computers
- Install, set up and operate computers
- Prepare simple bill of quantities and specifications for computers
The implementation of the National Diploma (ND) programme started with enrolment (registration) of students in the first semester of the 1996/1997 academic session and the programme was subsequently accredited on 30th June, 1999. The first set of ND students graduated in 1997/1998 academic session. The department also began its ND part-time programme in 1999/2000 session with a population of 118 students and had its first graduates in 2002/2003 academic session. The Department also offers Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Engineering. The Table below shows the course regimen of the programme.
