The Department of Accountancy, Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State. Started with Ninety-four (94) students in November, 1992 as Financial Studies Department.
In 1997/1998 academic session, three departments were created from old financial studies Department, Namely: Accountancy Department, Insurance and Banking and Finance Department. At the inception of the department, Mr. L.A. Olatunji (now Dr. L.A. Olatunji) was the Head of Department between 1997 to 2000, the second Head of Department was Mr Alayemi S.A. (now Dr. Alayemi S.A.) he took the reign of the Department between year 2000 to 2009, thereafter came the tenure of Mr. Adekunle S.A. who was in charge of the Department between 2009 to 2013, the current Head of the Department is Mr Salman A.Y who mount the mantle of leadership from October 2013-2017.
Today, the department runs both Full/Time (National Diploma and Higher National Diploma) and Part Time (National Diploma) programmes that leads to the awards of both National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Have produced thousands of graduates who are occupying important positions both in the public and Private Sectors of the Nigeria economy. The products of the department also excel in their professional calling both locally and internationally.
Presently, the department is operating under the umbrella of School of Business and Management Studies. The Department operate at the permanent site of the Polytechnic with Hundreds of students proportionate to the staff strength and facilities. As at now, the department has Thirty one (31) full time Lecturers and Two (2) Non-Teaching Staff with a well-equipped and functioning Accounting Laboratory for practical exposure of the students
Admission Requirement for National Diploma in Accountancy Department
Candidates seeking admission to read ND Full Time and Part / Time Accounting must possess Five O’Level Credit in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two from the following: Book-Keeping/ Financial Account, Commerce, Geography, Government/Civic Education, Marketing, Biology/Agricultural Science, Office Practice and Information Technology Management at not more than two (2) sitting in SSCE, GCE, NECO, NABTEB or its equivalent.
The period of Programme
The duration for both Full/Time and Part/Time students in National Diploma in the Department shall be for a period of four (4) semesters.
