The Management of the Federal Polytechnic Offa has organized a day workshop for the 2022 retirees and 2023 prospective retirees of the institution.
The workshop held on the 6th of July 2022 at the Polytechnic main campus was considered to enlighten and sensitize the retirees on their expectations after retirement.
Speaking at the workshop, the Pension Desk Officer of the Polytechnic and National Chairman, Forum of Pension Desk Officers of Federal Ministries Departments and Agencies, Alhaji Jimoh Yusuf thanked the Management led by Dr. Olarongbe Afolabi for deeming it fit to approve the workshop for the retiring officers who have served the Polytechnic meritoriously to be equipped with new hope and confidence after retirement.
Speaking further on the objective of the workshop, Alhaji Yusuf said the workshop will guide the retiring officers on how to process their retirement benefits as soon as possible to sustain them when salaries cease. He added that the complexity of Nigeria’s Socio-Economic situation has made the future retiring officers very bleak which could be institutional challenges, action or inaction of the government and its regulatory agencies, lack of adequate knowledge of the components of retirement benefits and how to assess it or the weak physical condition of retiring officers after going through stress for a number of years in service.
The workshop had in attendance a representative of the Pension Regulatory Body, National Pension Commission who explained critical issues such as components of retirement benefits and methods of assessment of the benefits with a reference to program withdrawal and annuity.
In the same development, the Rector of the Lens Polytechnic Offa, Dr. Ademola Ebeloku spoke about financial planning and budgeting after retirement while the Acting Medical Director talked about how to live a healthy and youthful life after retirement.
Earlier, the Acting Rector, Dr. Olarongbe Afolabi represented by Deputy Rector Academic, Arc. Tpl. Augustine Adama who is also one of the participants gave a track record of his service years till his appointment as the Deputy Rector. He said retirement is a happy moment for retirees as the officers were able to put their best in place for the polytechnic.
According to him, “I’m happy to be here today as one of the retirees. I came in the year 1992, I was in the works and services department before I was redeployed to the physical planning department. And in year 2000, I was redeployed to go and establish urban and regional planning department and before the end of my tenure, I was able to establish 6 departments. The journey has not been so easy but I thank God today, I’m fulfilled. It is a happy moment for all of us. We came, we saw and we conquered.”
The Pre-retirement workshop is the first of its kind in the history of Federal Polytechnic Offa facilitated by the Pension and Passages unit under the Deputy Registrar, Alhaji Jimoh Yusuf.
